Do-It-Yourself-ish Wedding Cake

I'm kind of loving this tiered multi-colored wedding cake from Martha Stewart Weddings, and it's a Do-It-Yourself-ish project too.  If you make a cake and cover it in thick buttercream, you can then stick the candies into the frosting to make any design or pattern you'd like, although I'm sure it would be pretty time-consuming.  I wonder how a navy blue/pink tower would look...
